December delights

Hayley & Ant went vintage-cool at their wedding with pops of red and white

Hayley & Ant: Seaside Serenades

After dating for three and a half years, Ant proposed to Hayley on the seafront in Le Touquet in France in June 2009. “We’d stopped there on our way home as we’d been on holiday there the year before when I was pregnant with our daughter,” says Hayley. “ I had a feeling he was going to pop the question, but he still took me by surprise in the moment!”

When it came to thinking about style inspiration for the big day and with the wedding date set for the 11th December, Christmas was never far from their minds…

Hayley & Ant: Greenwich Grandeur

13667

The couple had a riverside civil ceremony and a reception with a 120-strong guest list at The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich. “From the very start, we really wanted to get married in a pub but we couldn’t find one big enough as I have a large family,” says Hayley. “Eventually, we found The Trafalgar Tavern with its beautiful room upstairs. So we got our pub wedding, but with added glamour!”

Hayley & Ant: Vintage Glamour

13668

Hayley incorporated old-time charm into her W-day look with a prom-style dress from London boutique Fur Coat No Knickers (furcoatnoknickers.co.uk). “I’d been into the store for an initial try-on but nothing was quite right,” says Hayley. “When The Dress was brought into the changing rooms, I knew it was the one before I even tried it on. I know it’s cheesy, but I just knew!”

Hayley also wore a hooded cape made by her mum and sister for a wintery-cool vibe, plus pearl jewellery to complete the vintage look.

Hayley & Ant: If The Shoe Fits

13669

“I splashed out on some sparkly stunners from Christian Louboutin – they were beautiful!” says Hayley. The crystal embellishments on the shoes offset the vintage-style dress for the ultimate super-glam look.

Hayley & Ant: Roses Are Red

13670

A bouquet of deep red roses was the perfect aisle style accessory to complete the red and white, winter wonderland feel.

Hayley & Ant: Fifties Film Star

13671

”I wanted to look like a film star,” says Hayley. “But it was important that I still looked like me. So I went for the Fifties look that I’ve always loved – just a posher, more polished version of myself!” To create the glam look, Hayley combined red lippy with rollered va va voom hair, styled with a big, red flower.

Hayley & Ant: Prince Charming

13672

Antony looked every bit the Prince Charming in a three-piece bespoke suit lined in orange from A Suit That Fits (asuitthatfits.com.

Hayley & Ant: Scarlet Maids

13673

While the maids dazzled in scarlet dresses from Vivien of Holloway (vivienofholloway.com) and the little ladies looked super sweet in red frocks from Monsoon (monsoon.com).

Hayley & Ant: Candlelight Romance

13674

When it came to big-day décor, Hayley & Ant kept things simple and classy. ”We collected hundreds of different candlesticks from charity shops and arranged them on tables at the reception and during the ceremony,” says Hayley.

Hayley & Ant: Dec’ the Halls

13675

The only other decoration in the room was a big Christmas tree in the corner for a cool, festive feel…

Hayley & Ant: Christmas Carols

13676

Because it’s not a Christmas party without carol singing, Hayley created melody magic at her do with a sing-a-long. “My bridesmaid played the piano and we had song sheets for everyone,” says Hayley. “They all got into it and sang along loudly – it was brilliant!”

Hayley & Ant: Magical Memories

13677

In turn of a guest book, the couple had guests write messages on a framed photograph of them together.

Hayley & Ant: Festive Fruitcake

13678

And when it came to the patisserie, they had a traditional fruit cake made by Orpington Bakery (orpingtonbakery.com)

Hayley & Ant: Funky Photos

13679

Guests were given vintage props and chalk boards to write messages on for photos with the fun-factor.

Hayley & Ant: A Jolly Get-Together

13680

”We both wanted a big party,” says Hayley. “A big, loud, Christmas knees up! We ditched the traditional speeches, chair covers and sugar almonds in favour of an informal but classy do.”
