It’s dress shopping time and you’re on the hunt for your dream wedding dress. This is easily our favourite part of wedding planning and if we could do it all over again, we totally would.
Whether you’re at the very start of your wedding dress buying journey and have only scrolled Pinterest or flipped through magazines, or you’ve already hit up the bridal boutiques for a try-on session, you’re probably starting to get an idea of what you like.
While it may seem obvious, after all you choose clothes for yourself all the time, choosing a wedding dress is a totally different ball game. It’s unlikely you’ll have worn dresses like these before and some of the fabrics may be new to you too, so it’s no wonder so many brides end up surprising themselves with what they pick out.
Traditional wedding dresses are usually floor length and made from lace, silk, chiffon or tulle. If you’ve been looking at gowns like this and feeling like something is not quite right for you, why not consider a short wedding dress?
Shorter gowns can combine some of the same elements of traditional dresses (think lace sleeves and fitted bodices), while looking a little more modern. The knee length and above numbers are a great choice for confident brides, keen to show off their pins and steer away from tradition.
Short wedding dresses also give brides the opportunity to let their accessories share the spotlight. Most full-length gowns hide pretty shoes away, but a short dress showcases them, so if you’re a shoe obsessive (join the club) then they could be a great option for you.
