Heirloom Couture Dress
Think white, think ivory, think bejewelled, think simple, think colour-coordinated, small or large, understated or ostentatious. Whatever a bride could possibly want could be found in the Aladdin’s cave of a show that is the biannual Harrogate bridal buyers event.
Even though we hate to admit it, Alice and I are the new kids on the block and BBEH was the absolute baptism of bridal-related fire. Traipsing around hundreds of designers’ stalls all weekend; it was nice to meet the people we chat to on email every day and to preview the looks that will dominate Spring-Summer 2011.
Of course, with upcoming shoots and top-secret fashion stories being planned, we were both on the prowl for the perfect dresses, and the fabulous displays at Ritva Westenius, Maggie Sottero and Paloma Blanca(to name but a very few) left us both drooling and inspired.
New takes on veils at Joyce Jackson revived the more traditional bridal headwear and the fabulous shoes at Rachel Simpson, with their detachable pearl brooches were perfect for anyone with a fairy-tale theme in mind.
Be it ruffles or flowers, ribbons or chiffons, Harrogate had it all, and to be honest we were a little bit bedazzled by the whole thing! With a large proportion of the bridal market all under one roof, by the end of the second day, collapsing under piles of press-packs and image discs, Alice and I fell exhausted back on the train to London.
