The designer’s annual sample sale starts on 12th December, so if you’re feeling inspired by this year’s beautiful celebrity brides you can get your hands on a similar dress at an amazing price.
Here are Phillipa’s top tips on how to go about finding the dress for you:
1) The Bolshoi Ballet shape
For those searching for a traditional, fairytale dress, the Bolshoi Ballet is the most similar to the couture wedding gown worn by the Geri Halliwell. A full-skirted ivory gown with three-quarter length sleeves, it is French corded ivoire lace, hand embroidered together with invisible seams. This dress will show off your figure effortlessly, really defining the female form and accentuating the waist because of the incredible invisible corsetry inside. Why not complete the classic look, as Geri chose to, with a full-length, cathedral veil too? Phillipa always tells her brides that veils frame dresses beautifully, really finishing off the look marvellously and you won’t ever have another opportunity to wear one!
2) The Baby Olivia shape
If you are considering a V-strapped neckline with an extra low back, the Baby Olivia dress is the most similar to the beautiful couture dress that was worn by model Jacqui Ainsley this summer. Jacqui’s dress was an A-line corseted dress made from silk duchesse satin with a French fine corded lace overlay. The lace was over embellished with fine bead work all done by hand. The dress was a beautiful vintage cream shade, which can be softer than a bright white or ivory on many brides, which particularly works on those with soft English rose colouring as well as those with olive skin colouring. The hand worked scolloped neckline of the this dress, like Jacqui’s, is soft, gentle, eye-catching and feminine without being too revealing.
3) The Mesange
If you don’t think lace is your thing, a pure silk Zibeline or Mikado dress like Ali Astall’s beautiful wedding dress could be the one. The Mesange dress, like Ali’s, has a high front ‘boat’ neckline with a waisted bodice, which beautifully mirrors the collar bones, finished with fine straps on the tip of the shoulder. A neat silk Zibelene belt and a long full train to the rear finished Ali’s look, which was incredibly simple and beautiful. Ali wore a pure silk 3/4 veil with hand worked duchesse satin bound edges.
Sample prices will start at £1,500 for gowns and £50 for accessories. Most of the gowns will be a size 10/12, but the in-house couture seamstresses will be able to make alterations in as little as 2 weeks if required.
